The Glandore Unit was opened in 1975 by the government at Glandore. It operated as a non-secure unit providing accommodation for boys released from McNally Training Centre, and its successor the South Australian Youth Training Centre. It also assisted the boys to find work and gradually move back into the community. The Glandore Unit closed in 1980.
In the 1970s greater emphasis was placed on using community initiatives rather than committing young offenders to long term secure care. It was for this reason that the Department for Community Welfare opened the Glandore Unit at 25 Naldera Street, Glandore, in 1975. It operated as a non-secure unit providing accommodation for boys in their upper teens released from McNally Training Centre, and its successor the South Australian Youth Training Centre. It provided accommodation and assisted the boys to find work and gradually move back into the community. At the time most smaller Units accommodated between 8 and 10 boys. The Glandore Unit closed in 1980.
