Details

Family Information Research System [FIRS] for the Department for Child Protection and Family Support and its predecessors is an electronic database designed specifically to hold records that are important for Aboriginal people in WA who are members of the Stolen Generations. FIRS contains indexes to government, non-government and community records.

Access Conditions

Access to these records is restricted and confidentiality is protected by Child Protection and Family Support. If you believe the Department may hold records about you, or about a family member, you are encouraged to apply. Access is governed by the Freedom of Information Act 1992 and CPFS has a form on their website which you must use to apply for records.

Records

The amount of information that will be available for people will differ from person to person, but the database is designed to identify at least the following:

  • Family name
  • Given name
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Placements
  • Parents’ names (if known)
  • Names of brothers or sisters
