From the 1970s the Mission of St James and St John, via its subsidiaries Western Family Services, Gippsland Family Service, and Peninsular Family Service, ran a number of family group homes across Melbourne. The management of some of the family group homes run by The Mission of St James and St John in Bendigo was transferred to St Luke’s in 1977 when it became independent from the Mission. In 1978, following the closure of the Andrew Kerr Memorial Home, some children were moved from the Andrew Kerr Memorial Home to family group homes on the Mornington Peninsula. The exact opening and closing dates for many of these homes are not yet known.
