Details

The record series Duty Diaries contains the diaries of staff on duty at the Ashley Home for Boys. For each day different staff filled out the times of duties performed, as well as any incidents and events. Often the number of boys in sections are recorded. These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives.

Access

This series has a 75 year access restriction. This means that the records are closed for 75 years, except to former residents of the homes and their relatives. To access these records please contact Tasmanian Archives.

Records

This record series contains many items. Each item is a duty diary titled either Night Duty Diary, Secure Unit Diary, Open Section Night Duty Diary, or just Diary. Each diary covers from 1 January to 31 of December for a single year. There is at least one diary for each year from 1954 to 1985, with the exception of 1958 for which there are no diaries present.

Abbreviations for each section of the Home are often used in these records. The abbreviations are:

  • S/U meaning Secured Unit
  • O/S meaning Open Section
  • P/C meaning Privilege Cottage
