Depositions [Metropolitan Children’s Court] are the records of the daily proceedings in the Metropolitan Children’s Court No. 2. Frequently for the larger courts, agendas of each day’s business and full details of each case brought before the Court are included, while for the smaller courts, depositions of proceedings are sometimes interfiled. There are gaps in the series with court papers only held from 1950 to 1956, 1959 to 1965 and 1966 to 1974. There are 531 boxes of records in this series. Depositions for earlier dates can be found in the Series titled ‘Depositions [Metropolitan Children’s Court] (1937 – 1941).
Access to these records is currently restricted. In New South Wales, records relating to individuals, such as case files and correspondence are closed to public access for 100 years. Records such as registers and indexes are closed to public access for 80 years.
People wishing to access records about themselves will need to submit a GIPA (Government Information Public Access) form to the Department of Communities and Justice Open Government, Information and Privacy unit.
