The Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs was established in November 2020 following machinery of government changes. The Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs was responsible for youth justice and child and family services including adoption, foster and kinship care. It was also the Queensland agency responsible for leading the response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and the National Redress Scheme.
The Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs was replaced with the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services, and the Department of Youth Justice, in June 2023.
