The Corporal Punishment Abolition Act 1971 (Act No.58/1971) was passed on 14 October 1971 and commenced 18 November 1971. Its long title is ‘An Act to abolish corporal punishment by courts in South Australia and in connection therewith to amend the Children’s Protection Act, 1936-1969, the Criminal Law Consolidation Act, 1935-1971, the Kidnapping Act, 1960, and the Prisons Act, 1936-1969, and for other purposes’. It was amended by the Statutes Amendment and Repeal (Sentencing) Act 1988 (Act No.51/1988).
