Collection 01: Australian Indigenous Ministries papers and pictorial material, 1903-1998 includes a wide range of documentary and photographic records. Records related to the work of the Aborigines Inland Mission in the Northern Territory and of the Retta Dixon Home in Darwin form part of the collection.

Access Conditions

This collection is partly restricted and permission from the Australian Indigenous Ministries (AIM) may be required to access some records. To access material from the collection, you will need to contact Australian Indigenous Services at the State Library of New South Wales. Finding aids, in the form of complete listings of each series in the collection, are available online.

Records

The AIM Collection includes a number of series. Series 01 (MLMSS 7167) which comprises 20 boxes includes information directly related to the Retta Dixon Home. The records include:

  • a register of children at the home, including name, date of admission, date of discharge, date of birth (1961-79)
  • correspondence and reports relating to the home (1959-1983)
  • staff records, such as staff applications and diaries (1960-1984)
  • financial statements (1958-1987)
  • visitors’ books(1959-1972)

The AIM collection also includes the following series: Australian Indigenous Ministries – pictorial collection – Retta Dixon Home, Darwin, 1950s-1984. A full listing of this collection of 128 photographs is available online. This collection is restricted and permission from the AIM is required to view the photographs.
