‘Child Migration – visit by U.K. fact finding mission 1956’ is a file held by the National Archives of Australia. The travel itinerary of the Committee (pages 37-38) shows that they arrived in Canberra on 9 February 1956, visited New South Wales, then Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. They departed for the UK from Canberra on 19 March 1956. The file can be read online.

  • Monday, 12 March: Discussion in Perth
  • Tuesday, 13 March: Fairbridge, Pinjarra
  • Wednesday, 14 March: ‘R.C. Homes, Clontarf and Leederville’
  • Thursday, 15 March: Swan Homes and Methodist Home
  • Friday, 16 March: Boys’ Town, Bindoon then return to Melbourne by air at 11.30pm
