Case Study 26: St Joseph’s Orphanage, Neerkol was a public hearing of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, held in Rockhampton in April 2015. It inquired into the experiences of former child residents at St Joseph’s Orphanage, Neerkol. During the hearings evidence was heard from former residents of St Joseph’s Orphanage, as well as from representatives of the Sisters of Mercy, the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton, and government offices.

In March 2016, the Royal Commission subsequently published its findings in the Report of Case Study No. 26: The response of the Sisters of Mercy, the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton and the Queensland Government to allegations of child sexual abuse at St Joseph’s Orphanage, Neerkol. The webpage for Case Study 26 published on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse website includes the final report for Case Study 26, transcriptions of each day of the public hearing, exhibits and submissions related to the Case Study, and a list of witnesses who gave evidence during the Case Study.
