Ballarat Children’s Homes and Family Services was the new name given in 1984 to the former Ballarat Children’s Homes. The name change reflected shifts in philosophy and practice in the provision of ‘care’, away from the organisation’s origins as the Ballarat District Orphan Asylum. In 1998, the name changed again to Child and Family Services Ballarat.
Ballarat Children’s Homes and Family Services ran a hostel for boys, established in the mid 1980s, known as Raglan House. When it was to be closed in 1986, Ballarat Children’s Homes and Family Services requested that the boys at Raglan House be moved into the Lisa Lodge Girls’ Hostel in Ballarat. However, the committee running Lisa Lodge decided against it.
