The Anglican Social Welfare Bureau was the new name for the Church of England Social Welfare Bureau from 1981. The name changed when the Church of England in Australia and Tasmania became the Anglican Church of Australia. The Anglican Social Welfare Bureau provided support and advice for people in need of assistance. It was also involved in the placement of children in Anglican Homes and in foster care. The Bureau was replaced by Anglican Community Services in 1988.

The Anglican Archives holds general records relating to the work of the Church of England Social Welfare Bureau. These include card indexes, case registers and day books which record information about all people assisted by the Bureau. Most children admitted to Anglican homes have an index card, or register entry, recording details of their situation.
