Records

These records include the name and age of the person admitted, date of admission, name of the ship they arrived on where applicable, place of birth, the district in which they lived, reason for admission, occupation, religion, name and addresses of relatives or friends, and other remarks including date of discharge or death.

The entries in the registers are arranged alphabetically. In the earliest register the institution the person was admitted to is signified by the colour of ink used to write the entry; black ink for the Infirmary, red ink for the Boys Training School, and green ink for the Consumptives Home. The two later registers contain admissions only for the New Town Infirmary and the New Town Rest Home.
