The Advisory and Co-ordinating Committee on Child Abuse (ACCCA) was established by Order 1985 of the Community Services Act 1972 on 10 January 1986. ACCCA had assisted the Child Abuse Review Panel in 1984 but did not have a statutory role until this Order came into effect. ACCCA was a multi-discipinary agency set up to advise the Minister on child protection matters, promote the prevention of child abuse and neglect (including community awareness and involvement), coordinate inter-agency responses and collect and report relevant data. The Order was repealed on 28 April 1989 by the ‘Community Services Advisory and Co-ordinating Committee on Child Abuse Repeal Order 1988’. ACCCA continued to support child protection policy and operation until the mid-1990s.
