The Juvenile Justice Act 1983 established the Juvenile Court in the Northern Territory. This act was introduced in conjunction with the Community Welfare Act 1983, marking a change in philosophy separating the criminal and welfare jurisdictions relating to young people in the NT. It was repealed by the Juvenile Justice Act 2002.
The Youth Justice Act 2005 (no 32 of 2005) renamed the Juvenile Court as the Youth Justice Court.

The Status of Children Amendment Act 1985 (Act no. 40/1985) was passed on 18 September 1985 and commenced on 1 November 1985. It amended the Status of Children Act 1979.
The Child Welfare Amendment Act 1982 (Act no. 38/1982) commenced on 28 June 1982. Its full title was ‘An Act to amend the Child Welfare Act’.
The Child Welfare Amendment Act (No. 2) 1982 (Act no. 58/1982) was agreed to on 8 October 1982 and commenced on 29 June 1983. Its full title was ‘An Act to amend the Child Welfare Act’.
The Child Welfare Ordinance 1973 (Act no. 72/1973) was passed on 11 December 1973 and commenced on 28 February 1974. Its full title was ‘An Ordinance to amend the Child Welfare Ordinance 1968 as amended’.
