Find & Connect Blog Wins Award!

We’re proud to announce that at this year’s Australian Society of Archivists (ASA) conference, our blog won a Mander Jones Award.
The Award was for the “best publication to engage and communicate with clients or potential clients of an Australian archive or archival collection.”
Whilst Find and Connect is not an archive itself, we do provide a great deal of information regarding Australia’s history of providing out-of-home ‘care’, with a focus on those who experienced such ‘care’.
This blog allows us to engage and interact with users of our site in a way that the site itself cannot, and we are grateful to those who take the time to comment on posts that are important to them. A comment moderation policy is in place to manage inappropriate comments and spam, and to ensure that, like the site itself, the blog remains a safe space for those who were in ‘care’ to find more information about their childhood and the issues surrounding access to records.
In 2016, the blog was viewed more than 11,500 times and provided space for discussion and consideration of these important issues which does not exist elsewhere. Each of the top five posts were accessed more than 500 times each.
Our thanks go out to everyone who reads, comments, retweets or thinks about our posts, but particularly to those who have contributed as a guest writer.
In the coming months, we’ll be focussing more on external content – inviting those who have experience with records, or with the issues surrounding records to write guest posts; and give the issues surrounding records access more prominence.
We hope you continue to engage with the blog, and look forward to reading your comments. If there is a subject you would like to see featured in a blog post, or some-one you would particularly like to hear from, please comment below and we may feature them in the future.

October 13, 2017 10:34 pmCongratulations for winning this award for best publication to engage and communicate with clients or potential clients of an Australian Archive or Archival collection about Australia.
This is a great achievement about our history as there were approximately 500,000 children who grew up in care and although a lot of our history was not the best, it is still our childhood where we grew up. Thank you Brian Cherrie.
