The Records Access Documentation (RAD2) Grants 2016-17 have seen significant new information about records, and even new homes, added to Find & Connect from all over Australia.
Projects were chosen based on to the extent they would improve access to records for people who were in ‘care’ from the 1920’s to the 1980’s.
Despite the short six-month funding period, many of the organisations achieved even more than they had originally planned. Organisations reported that the time between records being requested and accessed had decreased, sometimes by a factor of weeks, and many organisations are improving their policies around providing supported access to records.
Congratulations to all the successful organisations on what has been achieved in the RAD2 funding round, particularly to those who surpassed their goals and were able to improve the way access to records is provided.
We understand that this funding round has meant significant improvements in how organisations provide records to those who were in ‘care,’ and many have asked that the funding round be replicated. Unfortunately this isn’t our decision, although we have passed on this feedback, and share the hope that these grants are funded again in the future.
The infographic below shows what was achieved by the organisations in greater detail.

September 22, 2017 6:06 pmIt is great to see what funding was available has been used to help care leavers get even more information in a faster timeline, about their time in care and associated information. I’m sure there have been some very dedicated people working on this project and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for it.

September 22, 2017 4:52 pmIt’s always great news to see upgrades and new entries. I am heartened to learn that these projects bring other benefits such as reducing search times for Care Leavers. Thanks very much for all the work that has gone into this. Will you post a list of the changes so that we can see at a glance what’s new? Or it already apparent?
